While every press release is different, they are all formatted in a similar way.
Title: Think of this as your “press release headline”. It should be short and to the point, encompassing who and what the press release is about.
Example: <Company Name> Announces <Employee Full Name> Achieves <Award Title>
Subheading or Description: This should be a quick two sentence max “meat and potatoes description of what the article is about.
Example: <Company Name>, is proud to <Employee Full Name>, has obtained an <Name of Award> and is recognized as a <What Award Means>
For Immediate Release (this should always top your release)
Press Release Dateline: City of Release, State of Release , Date of Release
Example: Press Release Dateline: Hanover, MD, August 15, 2023
Body: This should consist of a few paragraphs outlining the who, what, why, where of your announcement.
This should generally be between 300 and 800 words and be less than one page. You can also list any bulleted figures, stats, facts as needed. Remember it’s a brief announcement of something important and newsworthy, not War and Peace or an opinion piece.
Contact Information: The contact for the company should ALWAYS be listed. This would be who you would want the media or anyone seeing the release and wanting more information to get in touch with. Normally this would consist of:
End the Release with ###
Once your release is complete you will want to provide 5 keywords related to what your article is about as well as the Business Category.
Images should be included when possible as that is a requirement for some distribution ports.
